Wow! What an awesome experience! We were at Honey Brake Lodge for the alligator hunt and it was simply spectacular! I am not a hunter and I had no idea what to expect but this place and the staff did not disappoint. Ed picked us up at the airport even though we landed several hours later than expected due to weather. Cullen had a fresh, hot meal ready for us when we arrived at the Lodge at 10:00 P. M. Sarah and Elaine cheerfully greeted us and answered questions and showed us to our rooms. The rooms were clean and cozy and had everything we needed. Ed and Ethan made our gator hunt hands down one of the most fun experiences I have ever had! They love what they do and it is evident in how they treat their clients and the animals/property. They were knowledgeable and patient and didn’t mind putting up with rookie hunters like me. David and Journey in the pro shop were so helpful and kind. David even taught me how to shoot skeet! Robin runs the lodge with attention to detail and she makes her number one priority taking great care of her guests and making the Lodge feel like home. We felt like family for the three days we were there and we can’t wait to go back!!
The staff and facility were phenomenal! As soon as you arrive, you are greeted by smiling faces asking to take your gear. I took part in a hog hung at night and a gator hunt the next day. Their rifles and thermal scopes for the hog hunt were dialed in. The thermal scopes were top of the line, newer models. The guides were experienced and took care to make your trip successful and comfortable. The lodge was beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming with its roomy interior and leather sofas, relaxing with its views of the water and sunsets/ sunrises, and can accommodate large groups of people. The rooms were super clean and the beds felt great after a long day. The food was amazing as well. The chef prepared some wonderful meals. The stuffed mushroom appetizers were gone in 60 seconds and the salad, main courses, and desserts were very well crafted. Can't wait to go back!
I gifted my husband an alligator hunt to Honey Brake for Christmas of 2023, and we eagerly anticipated the trip for nine months. To tell you it blew away all of our expectations is an understatement. Before booking I talked to the Honey Brake staff at length to secretly plan the trip and then also found podcasts with the guides to get a feel for what to expect since a hunt at Honey Brake is an investment. I listened to so many waterfowl podcasts and I do not even hunt ducks lol but I was excited. Me as a Louisiana girl, wanting to share a little bit of home with my husband, and of course my husband just really wanted to get a gator. From the minute Mrs. Robin picked us up from the airport I knew it was going to be the perfect trip no matter the outcome of the hunt. She made us feel at home, truly... I felt like I was riding in the back of my best friend's car. Once at the lodge the staff welcomed us with open arms and Chef Cullen then welcomed our bellies with his delicious alligator and andouille jambalaya. Fair warning, get ready to gain some pounds and lick some plates! The lodge is beautiful, warm and inviting. The rooms are equally as nice, spacious and comfortable with nice sized bathrooms--and the turnover service was so unexpected each day when we got back to the room. As a woman who normally is a "boots off at the door" kind of gal, to come back to our room each afternoon and not have the clumps of mud everywhere from the morning hunt was such a nice touch. Honey Brake really thinks of everything. Our guide Ethan took us out the night before our hunt to scout for gators and to our surprise my husband had one in about five minutes of going out. A nine footer! The whole crew came out to help us slog this gator out of the canal all of us covered in mud grinning ear to ear. I thought we were done...boy was I wrong! We got several more gators, a hog whilst out on a farm tour, and were even invited along to hunt doves. Our hearts and souls were so full, we didn't want to leave. Truly, I told my husband in the room if he didn't have a sheep hunt right when we got back home that we were staying...and he looked at me and totally agreed. Honey Brake has our hearts and we will absolutely be back. Thank you so much to Mrs. Robin, Ed, Chef Cullen, Sarah and Elaine and of course our guide Ethan for welcoming us and leaving such an imprint on us. God worked a little harder when he made Honey Brake :)
Many thanks to Ed and the fine folks at HB. My daughter & I had a wonderful time. The hospitality, rooms, cuisine, guides & facilities were all exemplary. Even the fish cooperated! 🎣 God's blessings on all.
The owners are friendly and caring, the places are cozy and nice and the rooms are tidy and overall the atmosphere and scenery is absolutely beautiful!!
