York Outfitters

Went on spring bear this spring 2025 Had a fantastic experience. The camp was in a remote spot. Never seen anyone but those who were in our camp the whole time we were there. I have been to several hunting camps and this one was very comfortable and relaxing. From the attitude displayed by the camp cook Mike it seemed he was there just because he loved being there. He said if you go hungry it's your fault and that was true for sure. Every meal was better than what you could get at a good restaurant. Chad the owner made sure that we were well taken care of and is a very pleasant person to be at camp with. Sage is an awesome guide he has a passion that is rarely seen from a guide. He takes the hunt seriously and views it as if each hunt were his own. He is fun to be out with and wants to make sure you have a great experience. The other hunters at the camp were also great people to be around.
June bear hunt with my son and 2 friends was an unbelievable experience. Everything you want in a wilderness experience. The owner is an exceptional guide and provides a fun and exciting experience. We all had 100% success with bears coming to stands everyday. Great hunting, lodging and above all a hot shower each night. Our camp cook provides great meals everyday and you never went hungry. Thanks York Outfitters for being everything you said you'd be and more. Look forward to our next hunt with your team.
Hunt started with Owners being 2 hours late, at meeting spot. Guide was funny but all hunters left camp at daylight, not at the hunting spots. It took 1-2 sometimes 3 hours to get to hunting spots, so elk were bedded and very quiet by the time we got there. Then it was lunch and Nap time in the field, just about the time Hunting would be good in the afternoon, we were headed back to camp. Two of us never saw an elk, deer or bear. Of 6 hunters no one got a shot. Saw little to no elk poop, I truly think the big bad wolf has won in this area. I would not recommend this hunt to anyone.
York Outfitters are stand up people. In 2017 a buddy and I decided we wanted to do a drop camp for Elk during the rut. Out of 36 western outfitters Chad responded to the call. He was really tight on his schedule but was able to fit us in. Once we got there the hospitality was no different than his guided clients. Chad went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable in the back country. We had a fantastic time. (1) 5x4 elk and (1) black bear. The animals are plentiful and the area is very remote and rugged.
I recently went to York outfitters with 5 fellow hunters for a late season elk hunt. Our experience could not have been much worse than it was. Started out with the owner being 1.5 hrs late to pick us up at the grocery store he wanted to meet us at. To then find out he still had to do the grocery shopping for the week. We had terrible weather starting on day one which nobody can do anything about and I completely understand that part. But on our first evening hunt when we got to a place we could glass (when the fog would lift) our guide (the owner of York) fell asleep and was literally snoring within minutes of getting situated. After 3 days of rain, fog and snow it felt like the guide had just about given up on finding any animals to harvest. And the food we ate, was at times food the dogs would barely eat. We had a few dinners with elk burger that were all great. Other than that everything we had was so over cooked it was hard to choke down some nights. Ie: Porkchops you could barely cut with a knife and a potato and chicken dish cooked at the same time. (I think everyone knows that potatoes take longer to cook than chicken) On the 4th day we spent all day clearing trees off the road and going to town so that we could hopefully get out of there when it was time to leave. (It was a recommendation of ours to help since none of the guides had any kind of plan for hunting since we still had terrible weather) On our final day of the trip none of the guides were even in camp for breakfast so we made our own breakfast since they were up all night trying to get his horse trailer to the top of the mountain. We ended up going out hunting all day on our own because once they got back to camp they slept and then started tearing down camp. It was much more important to him to get his camp packed up then it was to assist us in trying to find an elk or deer to harvest. We essentially paid $750 a day for a guided hunt and pretty much only hunted 3 out of the 6 days paid for. The weather and lack of animals is out of anyone’s control but the lack of effort is what made this trip with much to be desired. Out of all 6 hunters not one hunter saw an animal with antlers other than the spike whitetails near camp. I would not recommend this hunt or outfitter to anyone I know. As for the two guides, they had never guided for elk in the area we were hunting, they were super nice guys and did have a good attitude. Simon was an absolute pleasure to talk to and really had a passion for life and was a real people pleaser. If the owner had half his passion the whole experience would have been much more enjoyable. There are many more things on this trip that I could go on about but that is a jist of our experience.
