Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge

Since we were out in the boonies we came across this national refuge and wanted to check it out. It is a rustic setting with lots of water here. They have docks that you can go out and fish from then. They have gravel beaches so you can wade out a bit before it’s starting to get deeper. There is a picture of Clint Eastwood because they filmed a part of Brocko Billy here when he was much younger. It was quite nice and very peaceful place to visit.

This is a great place to lose the world. Enjoy wildlife, great views, natures sounds and solace to a new mind! King Fisher trail, Gotta point trail and lookout hill trail are all AWESOME!

Was a very refreshing walk with the dogs. First time there so don’t know what to expect. Part of the trail was closed because of nesting. Couldn’t see the lake at all on that side of the trail. There was a wall of trees for miles. We saw 4 snakes crossing the trail, probably gopher snakes but not sure. Non threatening at all. The trail was very clean and wide.

Basic park setting on lake Lowell. Dirt road and parking area closes at 10pm. Simple dirt trail bordering the lake. Not much in the way of vistas but a nice little rest stop on your way to somewhere else.

So much fun in nature for all ages! Plenty of trails all ranging from easy to moderate. Our favorite is the lookout trail! If you do the loop, it is about 3.5 miles and is beautiful all year!
