This was my first time ever going hunting, and I’m actually the first one in my family to do it! Luke, Rocky, and Sarah were incredible guides — they patiently taught me how to scout, track, skin, and butcher a wild pig. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. They answered every question I had and shared their years of knowledge in a way that made me feel comfortable and confident. The scenery was beautiful, and the whole hunt has had such a big impact on my life. Now I get to share wild game with my family for the first time! I highly recommend this experience to anyone, especially first-time hunters. I’d do it again in a heartbeat! P.S. The meat was delicious!

A great experience for my first pig hunt with my son as a ride-along. The Lodge The “lodge“ is actually a 4-bedroom, 1.5- bathroom house on a compound on the edge of town. Within the compound is place to skin game and a walk-in refrigerator to store and cool the carcass before butchering. Restaurants are a 7-minute walk into town. Alternatively, the kitchen is set up for cooking dinner. There is a coffee pot to help with breakfast. The Hunt On our hunting morning guide Rocky arrived at 4:45 am. We drank coffee until 5:00, then followed him in our truck about 45 minutes to a ranch near Highway 25. We got into his 4-man buggy and started looking for hogs at 6:00. Up in the hills we stopped and glassed a few times. There was wildlife everywhere: elk, deer, coyotes, turkeys, quail, and doves. The views were beautiful. Shortly we spotted hogs half a mile away, but without a way to drive to them. Finally we saw another group 200 yards away on a ridge, but I was too slow to get a bead on them before they disappeared over the ridge. Rocky drove hard to get to the other side of the ridge and we picked them up again. He said to target the second to last hog at 220 yards. Now, shooting at a moving hog at that distance at 4X zoom is much harder than at the range with a stationary target at 18X. Using the rifle rest across the front of the buggy while seated, I got my shot off and hit it near the heart. Rocky was surprised it could still walk. Another shot caused it to roll down the ridge toward us and a third shot finished it off. This was all by 7:00 am! Because we wanted to learn, Rocky instructed us how to field dress the hog . After driving back to the lodge, he skinned it and hung in on the fridge. He is also a butcher, so I’m having him do that work. Overall this was a great experience and we plan to return. Next time it’s my son’s turn to shoot. I just hope we get closer to 100 yards for a one-shot kill. Tip 1: Before arriving, go to The Range in Soledad and shoot at 100 and 200 yards to make sure your scope is dialed in. Tip 2: Use a magazine that holds at least four rounds. You might go through them rapidly.

This place does it like no where else. Sarah was very communicative and helpful through the whole process. Upon arrival she greeted us and showed us where we would be staying. It’s nice having a whole house for you and your hunting buddies to grill, have a fire, have an all-around good time. The day of the hunt Luke and Rocky showed up at the exact time they said they would be there. We loaded up and headed out. Those two are damn good at their job and it showed. We had tagged out in less than 3 hours!! They were super helpful and showed us how to process the pig. Jokes were had and just a quality time outdoors with them and my buddies. Once we got back they shared more knowledge with us while they continued doing their work on the pig. All of this in less than 5 hours. These guys get it done, no questions asked. If you’re looking for a true pig hunt with knowledgeable/ friendly guides, this place is it! Will definitely be back sooner than later!

Amazing father and son bonding trip. Schmidt guides were very professional, accommodating, friendly, informative, and all round great gentleman. Sarah was very friendly, and a great communicator to ensure we were checked into the cabin and set for the day of hunting. The land was beautiful the side by side was a blast. The cabin was homey the beds were very comfortable, all necessities were provided. If you’re looking for a great hunting experience, look no further.
