Unsatisfying. The best part of the experience was how easy it was to book a hunt, and that's the best that can be days. I invited a fantastic friend and hunter, who happened to be African American, to his first pheasant hunt with me for this occasion. I also brought my newly trained dog of 1 year to his first live hunt to learn and scent. The specifics of this were described to the owner both in email and in person upon arriving at the field house. The hope was for an easy hunt to get them both introduced to pheasant hunting. Purchased a 6 bird package, and he was kind enough to explain where the birds would dropped via a map he had on the country. He explained there were a few hunts going on in the “main areas” and we would be in a side field. The area we were placed in was CRP grass, which was often well above our heads and very thick. This was described as 60 yards x125 yards approximately. My dog did not stand a chance finding any birds, let alone making it through the field. We did not see a single bird, despite walking the area 4 times in 4 different patterns over 2 hours. Very discouraging. I understand this sometimes happens while at a pheasant farm. We did some exploring prior to leaving, and found fields that were in better condition, and groomed for an easier hunt (SEE PICTURES ATTACHED). I am questioning why we did not have the same opportunity, considering my dog is new to pheasant hunting, or were offered a discount for a much harder hunt. Upon our return to the field house, the owner was surprised we did not see any birds, and really did not care about our concern for hunting in suboptimal conditions. Overall, we were dissatisfied to hunt in these conditions, see photos for comparison (1st photo is their website, second is what others hunted, third is what we hunted) despite paying full price and leaving without an inkling of satisfaction. My suspicion is you need to be a member to get a “good hunt” here. New hunters be aware.
Great place to hunt. Owners are always so accommodating, we had a new dog (9 month old shorthair) today so we requested to have a few birds marked for us and they gladly did. Skye pointed all 4 birds, I wish we could have hit all of them!😄 Cover was awesome, can’t wait to go back.
Sunday morning hunt, windy and dry, put out 6 birds, got 10 birds up and got nine. Great cover, nothing ran out. Fun hunt despite the dry conditions. Would recommend to all friends. 3 guys and 2 dogs.
Went on a bachelor party with 10 guys.. Everyone in the group had a blast. Everyone was very friendly and the guide and dogs were top notch…
Great hunting experience! Great service! You can't beat Wicked Wings Ranch!
