Unbelievable experience! I’m 59 and in good shape but ended up worn out. The guides can tailor the intensity of the hunt to your abilities. I wanted an aggressive archery stalk and boy did I get it. First day we covered a lot of ground but couldn’t get closer than 120 yds to a group of 6 bulls. My son tagged out on the first day on a giant 8 yo 6x6 so we used him and his guide, Hoppy, as spotter guides. Under their direction from an adjacent peak we ended our stalk at 5600 ft after 3 miles and a 400ft climb. We were able to get in front of a mixed group of elk. There was a huge 6x6 in the group that stepped out of the woods 60 yds away and 30ft above me with vitals only partially exposed, but I wasn’t confident about the shot and passed. However, a smaller bull stepped out with a group of 12 cows and I was able to get a 30yd shot off and dropped a 4 yo 6x5 bull! My guide Andy and I both sank to the ground to recover. My heart rate must have been in the lower 120s! It was adrenaline city. I also had brought my wife and 2 daughters as non hunters and we made a week out of touring Utah’s national parks before the hunt. We saw the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce Canyon and had a great time. We flew into Vegas but left from nearby Salt Lake. I can’t say enough about the facilities as the lodge was spectacular. Rachel our chef produced fantastic meals and accommodated my son’s gluten allergy. Will definitely go again. Thank you Nick for allowing us to share in your amazing property!

My father and I have been planning and saving for an elk hunt for about a decade. I did extensive research and searching for the best all around experience and boy am I glad I chose West Canyon Ranch. From the greeting at the start of the trip and the hospitality and accommodations throughout the trip this ranch can’t be beat!! Excellent hunting and if you want a hunt, this is a true hunt!!! We truly earned our keep and worked hard at getting our elk! Truly an experience of a lifetime! The most down to earth genuine guys you’ve ever met and the cooking was fantastic!! Rachel the chef is just as genuine as the rest and cooks her meals for you with love! You’ll feel right at home when you come here and the beat part is having the ranch to yourself as if it’s your own. We will definitely be back!!! If you’re having troubles deciding where to hunt in Utah. Look no further! West Canyon Ranch is an amazing place and a well kept secret! This place caters to either experienced hunters looking for a trophy bull or the novice looking to gain a wealth of knowledge in one trip that would normally take years to gain. The owners Nick and Fred Summers are amazing people super kind and humble. Our Guide Nick B is probably one of the best guides this side of the Mississippi! He was consistently putting us in the best positions to observe and close in on multiple herds of elk. As for the dining I can tell you everything Rachel makes is delicious I would dare say Michelin star quality but with a touch of love! Big shout out to Rachel!! In the end you won’t regret coming here, the lodge is beautiful and the views are even better the people make you feel like family. Lastly if you’re wondering about your success on taging out it will ultimately depend on your skill to take the animal. This was my fourth hunt with the West Canyon Team. NO words are large enough that could ever describe these folks.
