Know this: The cabins are much smaller than in the pictures and closer to each other. Now with that over, the place met all of our expectations and the service was great. Our kids LOVED the pasture area and the cabin feel (we have our own at home). The amenities were good, with a few suggestions below. The location was fantastic, only a mile from town but it felt country. We recommend anyone stay here who want a cabin near Hill City! Recommendations: Put in a Keurig maker because ground coffee isn't as popular these days. The tub is great but the curtain has gaps, so showering is a chore. Make sure there are enough outlets to charge customers devices.
I highly recommend Newton Fork Ranch!!! My husband and I visited from out of state for a long weekend, wanting to see Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. We stayed for 3 nights beginning of May. Weather was perfect. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the 40s. Chilly overnight, but beautiful during the day. When searching for lodging, I knew I wanted to be out in nature, not in a hotel. I researched many cabins in the area - most of them were in areas right by a highway or the cabins were set very close to each other. Newton Fork Ranch is unique in that they only have 9 cabins, and they are spread out from each other which provides more privacy and serenity. There are only two cabins that are somewhat close to each other: Timber Haus and Meadow Song. We stayed in Timber Haus, and it was heaven on earth. The cabin was clean and very cozy. The scenery is so beautiful - nothing better than sitting on the deck with a morning coffee looking out over the meadow and the forest. If you're really lucky like I was, you'll get to watch the deer grazing on the grass in the meadow (they joined me between 5:30-6:00am). The bed upstairs in the loft is comfortable, but it is very tight quarters and low ceilings (A frame), so if you're taller than 6', you might have issues. Also, the stairs are tricky, so I wouldn't recommend if you have any knee or mobility issues. I'm quite fit, yet I had to be very careful when going down the stairs. Technically, it accommodates 4 people because the sofa is a sofa bed. However, I personally wouldn't recommend it. The square footage on both floors is very small, tight quarters, so 4 people milling around would be crowded. Also, the 'bedroom' in the loft is not enclosed, so no privacy. I think the cabin is ideal for a couple. The owner was very communicative, friendly, and available. Very easy check in and check out. Overall, we think Newton Fork Ranch is just about damn perfect!
Gorgeous property, cozy and well equipped cabins, excellent location. We loved our stay at the Harney View cabin. It was just what we needed for our family of 6 for our spring break trip to South Dakota. It was close to everything yet remote enough to enjoy being away from civilization. The temperature was well below freezing when we were there but the cabin remained warm and cozy and the whole family appreciated the never-ending hot water. Our pup was able to stay warm and cozy while we took in the sights during the day and the night sky was a treat for astronomy fans. We will definitely return for longer next time. Thank you Jennie for the hospitality!
What a beautiful place. Great place to unwind and disconnect. The host was fabulous. I hope to come back again some day.
This place is magical. Our family has enjoyed a 3-night stay in the Forest Haven cabin, and we will absolutely return for another visit. The cabin was clean and had EVERYTHING we needed. There was even a box of Lincoln Logs and a CD player with CDs, which my toddler loved! The ranch is peaceful and has beautiful views in every direction. I almost don’t want people to know about this hidden gem of a place, but you can tell the owner takes great pride in this business and does a wonderful job managing things.
