We loved the ride, and scenery on Nemo Road. It definitely added to our rally experience. The people that call this place home are very lucky. The ranch was a great place to stop in and take a break. The views of the mountains and countryside are amazing. The people that worked there were very nice and friendly. I had a conversation with the owner and she was great. She has owned this place for many years, and done a great job making it memorable.
We used the campground. Not a lot of shade but we weren't in the camper during the day. We had water and electricity hookups that worked fine. My biggest complaint was when we went to dump our black and Grey tanks we had to lift the sewer hoses toward the dump station inlet because the inlet was too high. If they could raise the road where you dump about a foot or so that would put the camper high enough to make the Grey and black water flow better.
I didn’t stay in a room, I visited a few friends. I can say though that it was, for me an outdoorsman, a fantastic experience and one I highly encourage those both local and vacationers to experience for themselves. It is a feeling of authenticity and true Dakotan life
We enjoyed our stay here. Our cabin was cozy, had heat and hot water, and suited our needs perfectly. Beautiful atmosphere. Employees were fantastic. The bar / restaurant had great food and service. We will be back for future dirtbike adventures for sure!
So this is a quaint, well worn old guest ranch. Not fancy at all but quite adequate for home base to explore the Black Hills. We keep brining folks and they are never disappointed. The cabins are like old motor court cabins. Baths, fan, bed. We use the camping area for family gatherings. 30 and 50 amp service and water. Dump station nearby. Between Deadwood and Rapid City on the Nemo Road. Leaves Rapid via Chicago St and is a twisty mountain road easily navigable with RVs or pull behinds. An alternative route from Surgis is the Vanocker Canyon Rd, another mountain road but seems a bit easier due to its width. Lovely views either direction. Plenty to do in the area. RV rental on site with both side-by-sides and four-person trail vehicles. Miles of Forest Service trails and roads to explore from quite rugged to plain gravel roads. A trip up Nemo Mtn via FS trail is a must. Great overlook of the ranch and valley. Central to Sturgis, Deadwood, Custer, Faces and Crazy Horse. And the Needles Hwy. The Brandin’ Iron is on site for meals. A nice rustic cafe with hearty meals and great service. A full-service bar even has a lodgepole pine growing bright up through it.
