I wish I could give more stars, but that's all Google offers. This place isn't fancy like a commercial dude ranch. It's just a working ranch owned by a young, hardworking family that are so hospitable and they offer safe lodging for your equines. We had electric hook-ups for our rigs that were close to our horses. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend! And you might even get driven around by the kids and their pony.
I boarded my horses with Ty and Malloree for years. They were always very conscientious about making sure the horses had everything they needed: water (thawed/heated in the winter) and would keep the hay loaded for me (I used round bales). If I had to be out of town, they would do the daily maintenance/medication for my old man. There is an arena and round pen for use as well as ground on the river within riding distance for trail rides. They have opened a horse hotel as well, with trailer hookups near the horse pens and they are super close to the interstate! 5/5 recommend for horse boarding! I haven’t used their other services yet, but knowing the family and their dedication, I am certain you can’t go wrong!
I spent a few days at Smilin Ranch being completely immersed in ranch life and in the hospitality of the Barnes family and I cannot wait to go back!!! Their passion and devotion to ALL their animals and their land is unmatched. I’m so grateful they are willing to share and educate others about ranching, their history and their plans for the future with complete strangers but you come away feeling like family. We got to be involved with chores like egg gathering, feeding, pen cleaning and cattle roundup for vaccinations. I’ve done a lot of horseback riding but getting to ride their horse Perfect was just that…Perfect!!! On top of all that they put some delicious food on the table…I’m still talking about Beef Salad…loved all the food!!!
