Rowse's 1+1 Ranch

I just spent a week at Rowse’s 1+1 Ranch in Nebraska. First off, this guest ranch is NOT a dude ranch! It is a working cattle ranch. If you’re looking for something real and riding for a purpose, this is it! The horses are well trained and do what they’re asked to do, assuming you know how to ask them. This is not nose to tail riding. You’ll be driving cattle, helping in the doctoring process, checking water tanks, looking for stray cattle or calves, and numerous other tasks important to ranch work. Jerry (the owner) as well as Gage, (wrangler extraordinaire) are the real pros, but you will be working right along side them and doing pretty much the same type of work. Jerry is a no nonsense leader who says what needs to be said in order to get the job done and keep you safe. He might sound rough, but he’s a great guy, and the real thing! And Gage is very generous with his time and was always willing to lend a hand and help you manage the job at hand. You will learn a lot from these two cowboys! And I would be remiss if I didn’t give a salute to Jodie and her wonderful disposition. She made saddling up in the morning less stressful and actually a pleasant experience instead of a chore! The scenery at the ranch is composed of beautiful green rolling hills, spotted with trees, sandy patches and of course plenty of cattle. The accommodations were exactly what I hoped for. The rooms were rustic and extremely comfortable. They were well decorated in true western fashion, and were also spotless! As for the food… don’t get me started! Every meal was incredible! If you like great home cooking, you’ll love everything Tammy (Jerry’s wife) prepares. Steak, Beef Brisket, Meat Loaf, Lasagna, Chicken Fried Steak, Fresh Salads and Vegetables, a host of Deserts and even Home Made Ice Cream, to name a few! I’d stay there just for the food! But, in fact, everything and everyone was delightful, and God willing, I will be back next year!
I was really excited to come here and while some of the experience was good the rancher ruined it for me. Tammy the owner and wife of the rancher really holds everything together she was an amazing cook and super welcoming and accommodating. Jerry on the other hand the husband and rancher is a grouchy old man who has a poor attitude . He is the one you will spend most of the time with as he’ll take you out to the different pastures to check cattle along with one of his long time guests from France that he’s taught everything to. This guest is who you’ll interact the most with and will guide you as Jerry clearly doesn’t care to. Honestly feels like he’s annoyed that he has to take guests out. He will give very little instructions but will also make sure you know if you’re doing something wrong which is fine if you are trying to teach someone but that’s not the experience I got. It’s hard to ask questions because he’ll give you mostly one word answers or tell you “you probably wouldn’t understand”. I can say I learned very little and what I did learn it was at the expense of getting over the poor attitude that came with it. Other than that the pastures were very pretty and the horses were amazing and well behaved.
Our visit to Rowse’s 1+1 Ranch in Burwell, NE was such an amazing experience! The Ranch offers wonderful accommodations- the guest cabins are very well appointed, comfortable, and welcoming. The property is beautiful and all activities fun, educational and exciting. Tammy and Jerry are just the most warm, genuine, and hard-working people you will ever meet. We savored every bite of Tammy’s delicious meals prepared with meats and produce from the Ranch and cherish all the memories our family made during our visit. If you ever find yourself on a road trip through the great state of Nebraska or looking for a fun destination- look up Rowse’s 1+1 Ranch and look no further! We are already making plans for or next visit!
What an AWESOME experience! This is truly a working ranch. Everyday is spent on horseback, riding the range doing the chores, checking cattle, pastures, and herding cattle across this beautiful countryside. During my stay, we rode every day, and spent a couple days moving and cutting cattle. Jerry is a very patient boss, teaching me what I needed to know regarding my horse, the cattle, and the way things are done on the ranch. I had no prior horse riding experience, but he taught me so much, I decided to extend my stay, and am very glad I did. I had the same horse all week (a beautiful Palomino), so we really got in sync after a couple days. Tammy, while being an absolute TERRIFIC cook and hostess, was so warm and friendly, teaching me the little things about riding, saddling, horse care, and how to “read” my horse. The other quests during my stay were, literally, from across the world! Great mix of people. All in all, a great vacation, which proved I’m never too old (at 68) to experience something new. If you are looking for a unique experience, this is the place.
Tammy and Jerry are wonderful people. The cabins are beautiful, cozy and have heating and air conditioning. The cooking is sooo delicious and there is more than enough to eat. This is my first experience on a ranch and I am loving every minute of it. I have heard other guests here say they tried other ranches before coming here but this was by far the best experience they had. I will most likely be back many times and I'm certain I will not want to go anywhere else. What a fantastic experience. If there was a way to rate higher than five stars I would!
