July 2024 my wife Sally and I were on the 7-day flyfishing trip into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. It was the trip of a lifetime. Great guides and Kaitlyn and Strite (owners) were wonderful. If you enjoy flyfishing, want a wilderness experience and appreciate adventure then it would be hard to match this trip in the lower 48.
Been using different Outfitters for years in Wilderness areas for Hunting and Montana Wilderness Lodge was very disappointing. The guides had little to no experience and lacked professionalism. Guides routinely overslept the agreed upon start time causing us to miss first light. Food quality was poor, hunters had to fend for themselves in the kitchen some days when the cook just decided not to do his job. Trash was scattered all over the campsite bringing in mice to the tents. The fresh water jugs were almost always empty. I even had some of my personal items stolen by the staff. On top of that not a single hunter in our camp or the week before us saw a legal animal which is somewhat out of the control of the outfitter. Maybe there were animals out there, but we missed first light and our guides were so loud on the trail the animals were gone before we got close. Backcountry hunting and camping can be difficult and it is even harder when your outfitter is putting in minimum effort, but charging premium price.
I contracted the services of Montana Wilderness Lodge & Outfitting for my 9/14/2022 - 9/21/2022 Bob Marshall Wilderness Elk Hunt to ensure the logistical aspects of the hunt (lodging, food, water, saddle/pack stock, etc.) AND a professional guide who fulfilled the requirements and qualifications of the Montana Board of Outfitters were provided. Montana Wilderness Lodge & Outfitting did ensure the logistical aspects of the hunt were handled properly but did NOT ensure a professional guide was provided for my 9/14/2022 – 9/21/2022 Bob Marshall Wilderness Elk Hunt. I was extremely disappointed in the services provided by my "professional " guide. I was assigned a guide who had ZERO previous guide experience, ZERO knowledge/experience in hunting the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and ZERO saddle/pack stock experience. How are you supposed to effectively hunt an area as large as the Bob Marshall Wilderness when your guide does NOT know the areas where elk might be located and is unable to manage the saddle/pack stock to get you where you need to be? Additionally, the guide did NOT know how to properly prepare pack for a spike camp experience (water filter, battery backup for navigation tools – cell phone OnX, FOOD, managing saddle/pack stock in spike camp). The lodge, base camp, cook, packers/wranglers and saddle/pack stock were all very good. The entire hunt was turned into a bad experience due to an incompetent guide.
This was the best trip I have ever been on. The staff is phenomenal!!! This was an experience that words can't give enough justice to. You simply HAVE to do it !!! Fish was epic and the guides put to you on them !!! Any skill level will catch and have the time of their lives. I can't say enough about this place other than book a trip and go !!!
Visited there once,nice scenery.
