Of course! Here's a suggestion: I recently booked Captain Joe for a hunt, and I couldn't be more impressed. Joe's organization skills ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience from start to finish. I bought a TURKEY HUNT for my husband from Joe at DOA. He was thrilled with the hunt! He got his jake the second day and had a blast. Joe is personable, knowledgeable, and professional. My husband cannot wait to go again! TY, Joe!
Originally booked a snow goose hunt with them and paid a $1300 deposit for 8 people. I was told two weeks prior that the geese were not there and we should change dates. No big deal I was willing to be flexible to have a good hunt. But after multiple date changes I was offered a sea duck hunt instead but could only have 4-6 people. Two days prior I was told the captain was too sick and we couldn’t go so I asked for a refund and was told no so I didn’t reply. Then the next day I was told we could still go. Our captain and mate was a super nice guy but not a hunter we had the worst hunting experience of my life. I am sorry I wasted my hard earned money with doa outfitters. Do not make the same mistake I did.
4 of us booked Joe for 3 days of snow goose hunting. Prior to our hunt, Joe made several text messages about not having the 3 days filled and asked us to find more people for him. We actually tried to find more folks, but had no luck. Joe told us that he would have to pull the plug on the hunt, if he didn’t get a full amount of people. This was a huge problem for us, because we had taken vacation days, in order to hunt. Not knowing if we were going to hunt, was not good. He later filled the days, so our hunt was still on. Prior to the hunt, Joe said that his wife was sick, so food would no longer be included and he would knock off $25 per day, because of that. We arrive at the “lodge”, which is a garage, heated by a wood stove, which we had to keep filled, for heat. The bunking area was one room with a lot of beds. Not great if someone is a snorer. On day one, Joe gives us the name and number of the guide we are to contact, for information on where and when to meet. Day 1 hunt, we meet our guide and as the morning progresses, we find out that we were pawned off on a completely different guide service, not Joes. The 3 days were all exactly the same situation. Luckily, the guides we were with, did an ok job and we killed a few birds. No hunt was great, but that’s hunting. Joe usually came to the garage each day after the hunt and would tell us how much time he’s spent, riding and looking for birds. We noticed that his vehicles were always parked as they were when we left, so we were skeptical that any scouting occurred. One of the days, he told us that he had just returned from scouting, but his hood of his vehicle was cold. A big lesson learned on trusting your gut feeling. Joe was very sarcastic and short, by text messages and by phone. His accommodations changed from what we were told. Lodging was not great at all. We never once hunted with him, or anyone in his service, only with other guide services who we were pawned off to hunt. Our hunt was a few years ago, but I’m finally writing a review. From other reviews I’ve seen, they claim to not know who the people are who write the bad reviews. They may attempt to do the same with me, but I can assure you that 4 of us were there. I never plan to use them again, so I have nothing to gain or lose with this review, other than warning others of my experience. I did text Joe a few days after our trip and explained my dissatisfaction with the experience. His response was, “ if you feel that way, we have nothing left to discuss”.
