Man this place is a dam zoo. Untamed and wild but awesome and scary when you think you've mastered the art of stalking and you have a pork chop leaving tracks your tracking and you look up and there he stands 15 yards ahead and staring straight at you through the tallest and thickest palmettos you've ever seen and then realizing the noise behind you isn't your partner because he is not with you there today but it's actually another group of hogs all 250 +so you start to improvise a plan in your head can you start to execute it so you take a step forward and boom 250 to and300 lb hog shoots out from under your feet as you step on it cuz you don't see it underneath the palmetto's so you realize you are surrounded so you turn to walk the other way and boom boom boom hogs jump and run from underneath your feet. And after all the commotions over return to walk back towards your vehicle and you realize that you don't know where your vehicle is cuz you've only been there for like 30 minutes and you you never got a chance to flag a trail through that thick stuff. so like I said adrenaline packed but not for the novice unless you love the tense moments...

Just giving it 3 Stars for the moment because this is my first year hunting Thistlethwaite. Yeah the palmetto is thick but if you don't mind trekking around you can find some good areas. I'm 60 Year's old and not in the best of shape but I'm sure going to give it the benefit of doubt. Already seen a few deer and a couple of hogs so they are there now I have to put in the work and I don't have any problems with that. Good Luck To Everyone And Stay Safe 💯💯

Neat place to hunt because there are squirrel, wood ducks, deer, and hogs. But can also be bad because the mixed hunting hinders early season deer archery.

This place is the mother of all palmettos, like a jungle. Very thick woods, mostly hardwoods, oak trees etc, water does not drain very fast from this area, some areas on the place have been cut over recent years, squirrels are abundant as well as good deer stock if you penetrate the dense woodland growth to find them. Climbing stands are almost a must-have unless you post up on a pipeline. Tough place for the inexperienced.
