Quite a lovely wildlife refuge, I had a good time birding there! Very nice swampy/Marshy habitat
A real Louisiana swamp. Full of cypress trees, sweet gum with a few oak trees mixed in here and there. We're so lucky to have a native area set aside for all public to enjoy. Too bad the hunting that is regulated by the Louisiana Wildlife Department, has done a poor job of managing the whitetail deer herd and the wild turkey flocks.
Been here twice. I enjoy it for what it is. Its nicely kept. The roads are gravel with no pot holes. Saw lots of nature with my family. I really love how many times my son would tell me to look in excitement. We had a great time, it was free, and was able to get outside!
Definitely worth taking time to visit. Wish I had more time when I went on a whim. I definitely am going to plan more time the next time I am in Baton Rouge. Even just a drive is beautiful, but stopping and doing some short hikes just gets you deeper into the swamp and able to see more wildlife.
Had the place to ourselves camping no bugs to speak of great time of year to go exploring
