One of the very best life experiences. Every element of the Flying W Ranch is authentic and genuine value for money. We spent days out riding, stayed in amazing cabin accommodation, shot bottle of a log using old American guns and sampled some quality cooking. I wish I never left or could have brought the horse home with me!!

We had a great weekend at the ranch in a large group. Would highly reccomend. Cattle driving was incredible and a long time in the saddle for those that do not regularly ride. Incredible views and amazing to get out and feel free on horseback. A good mix of steady walking and cantering across the hills. We penned and separated cattle before driving a group across the hills and got to watch a bull be roped and medicated. The flint hills rodeo was on during our stay so we went to see that one evening. An incredible cultural experience (we are from the UK). The waggon ride was tame and the shooting was fun which was a nice close to the weekend. The rooms varied, some were excellent and some felt basic but communal areas in the bunkhousecwere superb. Hottub also perfect. The food was also incredible. Best cooked steak i have had and breakfast burritos were awesome. Thank you for a great stay!

Amazing experience! Took my adult daughter there this weekend for a sunset horseback ride. The beauty of the Flint Hills was breathtaking! We had wild turkey running across our path after we crossed a creek. An entire herd of whitetail deer rose and ran along the ridgeline as we crested. Blue sky, rich verdant green hills, and fun-filled ride. Gwen and Casey led our adventure. Both were amazingly kind and knowledgeable about the history, and geography. Their horses are gentle and at no time did we feel unsafe. Great campfire when we arrived back as Casey rewarded us with several campfire songs while a pack of coyotes sang along in the distant fading light. Unforgettable experience. Can't wait till come back. Todd

A beautiful place to hike and explore, beautiful lodging, and a wonderful experience! Would recommend to anyone as long as they implemented a few changes! The hosts were kind and gracious. Casey was very personable and had some great Kansas historical stories. My reason for less than 5 stars comes from given the steep price point per person, I felt there was things definitely to improve on. 1) We had no idea there was a hot tub or that we could hike while we were there even through my email communications with Gwen. Had we known, we would have brought the appropriate attire to enjoy these things. This was very disappointing given the price of the event. 2) Homemade breakfast and lunch (breakfast burritos and chili) hit the spot on a cold morning pre- and post- cattle drive but was mediocre given the price point. 3) Would have enjoyed a photo opportunity out in the pasture on our horses. My husband managed to get a few on his cell phone but many folks couldn’t take their own photo or get to their phones. Such a great photo opportunity- would recommend implementing a time for photos if possible in the fields! 4) I felt so free as a beginning rider to relax and figure things out on my horse (who seemed experienced yet stubborn but also seemed to lead the way) . However , I wish there were things discussed prior— I wasn’t sure If I rode too fast would I scare the cattle off? Also trotting most of the time was killer on my legs— I had bruises all over ! 5) the meet and greet at the campfire was rescheduled an hour earlier with only 2-3 hours notice. Fortunately we got there just in time after our 2 hour drive— it would have been disappointing to miss some of Casey’s stories! Some others did miss the meet and greet. They did a great job explaining how to ride a horse so if you’ve never ridden before or have little experience don’t let that stop you! It’s a wonderful way to experience the Flint Hills.

The Flying W Ranch is a diamond in the beautiful Flint Hills! It's hard to imagine Heaven being any better than a moonlight ride in the hills. The full moon rising in front of us, the sun setting behind us & the hills spreading out in front of us... Heaven. I stayed in the Calaboose cabin & it was perfect for me. The king size bed is SO comfortable that I didn't wake up until 9:30! I was so relaxed... If you get a chance to go, GO! Josh, Gwen, & Josie Hoy are such congenial hosts & they go out of the way to make you feel at home. They provided us a delicious supper, gave a thorough safety demo before the ride, & made sure we were taken care of. All in all, a perfect get away.
