American Falls Hatchery - Idaho Fish and Game

Had a great time it was interesting

A great place for viewing thousands of fish. The hatchery runs are full of many different sized fish. There is also a pond with large trout, and you can feed the fish. They get really excited and are not shy.

There is a little trail down to the water that is an AMAZING birdwatching spot for herons, egrets, gulls and probably ducks too. When we were there in September we saw the pelican migration! Indescribable! The trail is hard to find -- try going down to the little parking lot where you can see some of the hatchery and feed pellets to some trout in a little stream (worth the stop), then walk up and take your second right (sort of) down a gravel road. Worth finding.

Was fun to feed the fish!!!

No admission or appointment needed. It was great to just park and look at the fish. Bring quarters for fish food!
