It has taken me a week after my visit to write this as I couldn’t think of enough words to describe the wonder of it all. David, Jane and family are all incredible and are the most welcoming hosts to their amazing place. I was immediately treated like an old friend, no…family! From check in to sad checkout day, every minute was incredible. The staff is top notch and not only tend to your every need, they are all experts in their field. I have talked nonstop to anyone who would listen post trip about Rainbow Trout Ranch. It is so much more than an experience filled with adventure and great food, it is a feeling that can only be described by those who have been. Don’t delay, book your stay!
Our group of 5 friends had an unforgettable stay at Rainbow Trout Ranch! The entire family and staff were so genuinely warm and welcoming—they truly made us feel at home. The well trained and cared for horses as well as our horseback rides through this amazingly beautiful expanse of mountain terrain was unforgettable and many days customized for our group. The wranglers made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. The meals were delicious (and they went above and beyond to accommodate my need for gluten-free). Our cozy, spacious cabin gave us the perfect place to relax and reconnect. Evenings were filled with sing-alongs, hay rides and discovering the many talents of the staff, which made the experience all the more special. Every detail of the week was handled with such care—it was clear how much thought and love goes into running this ranch. We left with full hearts, big smiles, and amazing memories.
In 2001, our parents asked us, “Do you want to go to Disney or a dude ranch?” For some reason, without knowing what a dude ranch was, Rainbow Trout Ranch was our answer. My favorite memories from childhood are always centered around The Ranch. To put it simply, it allowed for us to be kids, running wild and getting dirty. I would sneak into the tack room to play with the barn kittens after loping on the logging road, before line dancing with Doug. Nights were filled with honey drizzled bread, capture the flag, and sing-a-long hayrides. There was really nothing better than the ranch. For 6 years, “The Ranch” became our Disney for one week each summer. And 18 years later, after making a promise we’d come back for our “big birthdays”, we got to experience it again, and unleash that inner child. It felt like coming home to a warm hug. There was comfort in the same routines with excitement of seeing the next generation add their flare. Cookouts on the river, unexpectedly getting to push cattle, the rush you feel from the horses right before a lope, the awe of Aspen Cathedral, being welcomed with cookies & lemonade after a day on the trails, coffee cups never being empty, getting to know housekeeping on a deeper level and winning the clean cabin award (3x champs now), riding through the river with Bells guiding us, and reconnecting with old friends and making new. We kept saying all week how special of a place it is. And as much as it is, I do think it’s the people (& horses) that make it what it is. It’s rare to find a place where every person you meet is your favorite - a true gem in their own way. Thank you RTR for giving us a week of your magical home. I can’t wait for our babies to grow up with The Ranch as their Disney and to keep making memories that feed my little 6 year old soul.
