The cabin we stayed in at Greer Lodge was adequate. It was reasonably clean inside and even though the kitchen is small it had everything we needed. Having a BBQ grill made it convenient to bring our own food and grill. The nearest town with a supermarket is about 20 minutes away in Eager so very easy to stock up on food when you get there if you don’t want to pack a cooler or forget something. The area is very pretty. I’m giving 3 stars because of terrible customer service. We arrived at 5:01PM on a Thursday after driving 4 1/2 hours. Our reservation confirmation email from Greer Lodge stated that they would text us on the day of our arrival with directions to the cabin and how to access it. The cabins are spread out across multiple properties along the Main Street in Greer. We never received a text. The main office was closed when we arrived but had a sign on the door with a phone number to call for check in if the office is closed. We called that number and also called their other number listed in their email and left messages on both. After about 30 minutes of waiting outside the office, we also texted and emailed them. Not only did we not get a call back or reply at that time, but no one bothered to call or email us back at any point during our stay to make sure we got access. We did wind up finding the cabin on our own and it was unlocked so we were able to get in. We certainly didn’t expect them to roll out a red carpet for us but for $299 a night, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a call back when trying to check in. We completely understand that the office is not open 24/7 but there must be a way to communicate with the staff and receive a response after regular business hours. This could have very easily been avoided had their confirmation email included the details on where the cabin was on the property and let us know that it would be open and ready for us when we arrived. Also, a simple call back or return email would have been appreciated.
The cabin we rented (89) was small but workable, except for the kitchen. While well-equipped, there was practically no counter space. The worst, however, was the absolutely filthy range. Baked-on crusty caked burners and oven were disgusting. The lights over the stove and inside the oven were burned out, and one burner didn't work. I told the young man at the office and he sent someone to look at the burner. She said they sometimes just needed adjustments, as housekeeping removes them to clean. I said, "Seriously? This range hasn't been cleaned in years!" I personally scrubbed around one burner and was able to remove most of the baked-on crust, but the drip pans probably all need to be replaced, and the inside of the cooktop needs to be opened and scoured. It's a fire hazard. Outside, I also noticed the rain gutters were full of pine needles. Two of the window screens are bent. I might be more willing to overlook some of this, but after reading the extensive list of wildly punitive rules, I was put off. To protect myself, I took photos of every little scratch and stain. Ask to read the rules before you rent!
Would be awesome to get a call back and actually talk to a human being. My mom and I have each called 3x the past 18 months to try to book here and make the trip from Phoenix… and we have both left numerous voicemails, never hear back, and have never been able to talk to a person or stay here. Work on your customer service. We won’t be staying here, clearly, due to your lack of care, service, and basic human decency. Try to care a little. Do better.
The overall vibe of this place—and the cabin we chose—was exactly what we needed! Though it rained a little during our stay, it was nice hearing the rain through the trees and when it wasn't, hearing the creek was amazing. We had such a great time by the creek, we'd just read and nap for most of our stay. The only thing that troubled me was the very obvious fire code issue in one of the rooms. The ceiling light/fan was running its (live) wire down one of the corners (issue #1), wire-nutted into more wire running to an outlet over the bed (issue #2), most of which was painted over (issue #3). I'm no builder, electrician, or firefighter, but even I know this isn't just fire code, but wildly unsafe.
This is small local ran place, and it is pretty. We called and made the reservation for a room and the one we wanted was a little more but they explained they wanted to make it a great stay and let us get that room for the same cost, this was awsome! But right before heading out they sent a confirmation but for a different room. Called and asked what was going on and they said they said basically sucks to suck. Come to find out they had a large party that wanted that cabin so they gave them our reservation. This was such a ******** move to do. The floor and counters were severely warped, the dishwasher was falling out and almost fell on my foot, amd the patio wood was broke/ starting to fall out. Shame that this place went from probably being a 5 star to a 1 star all so fast. Shame on them for this kind of service and experience. Find a different location to rent from.
